Our Company
Specto Medical began as a research journey at the University of Basel, Switzerland, exploring how converting CT scans into life-like 3D and VR could make complex anatomy easier to interpret and discuss. That work became the foundation for Specto Medical AG, incorporated in Switzerland in 2022.
Since then, the team has grown but the focus has stayed consistent: take what is technically possible and make it practical for the realities of clinical workflow.

2020
Research journey began
It all started as a project to visualize CT scans in 3D using volume rendering. This developed into a research project at University of Basel, extending the technology to VR.
2022
Specto Medical AG incorporated
The company was founded in Switzerland, with a goal to commercialize and extend the technology into practical clinical applications.
2023
ISO 13485 certification achieved
This recognises our commitment to meeting the most rigorous global standards for quality management in medical device development.
2024
FDA clearance and CE Mark achieved
SpectoMED received FDA clearance as SaMD class II for aid in diagnosis and surgical planning, along with CE Mark MDR Class IIa. A huge achievement for a young company.
2025
Apple Vision Pro supported
Extending SpectoEDU headset compatibility to Apple Vision Pro along with Meta Quest 3 gives clinicians more freedom and flexibility.
2025
Launched in USA, Canada and EMEA
Expanding our reach and building new partnerships.

First AI-powered features introduced
Our Brain Extractor and Brain Inspector AI tools allow clinicians to reduce previously complex workflows to one click.
